Madrid named as Host City of Junior Eurovision 2024

10 May 2024 at 19:38 CEST
Spanish broadcaster RTVE has announced that the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on Saturday 16 November at the Caja Mágica in Madrid.

RTVE has taken over the organisation of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after winners of the 2023 Contest, France, handed the opportunity to another country. France had hosted Junior Eurovision twice in the past three years.

Spain accepted the invitation following Sandra Valero's second-place finish at Nice 2023 with Loviu

On Friday 10 May we had the announcement that Madrid is the city chosen to host Junior Eurovision 2024. At a press conference in Malmö, RTVE released more details of the 22nd edition. In addition to the Host City, the date of the event was also revealed: the Contest will be held on Saturday 16 November.

In February, RTVE accepted the offer from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to organise the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The decision came after France, winner of Junior Eurovision 2023 (with Zoé Clauzure and her song Cœur), passed on the opportunity. The 2023 Contest in Nice was the second Junior Eurovision in three years organised by France Télévisions, the French broadcaster.

Junior Eurovision 2024 in Madrid will be an even more special year because Spain celebrates the 20th anniversary of María Isabel's victory at the Contest with Antes Muerta Que Sencilla.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision, welcomed the news of the Host City:

“We’re very excited to be heading to Madrid 55 years after the Spanish capital hosted its last Eurovision event. We are looking forward to seeing RTVE’s exciting ideas to make this wonderful venue come alive, and to welcoming young artists from across Europe to Caja Mágica in November.”

Junior Eurovision 2023 took place in Nice, France on Sunday 26 November and was won by Zoé Clauzure from France! You can rewatch it live via the official Junior Eurovision YouTube channel (if available in your country).
