Laura

Laura is the youngest member of the Omloop family. With two brothers, three sisters and two dogs added to the mix, their home is always very lively. Especially when you consider that Laura is singing from dawn till dusk: she begins in the morning, when she is in the bathroom, and only stops when she goes to sleep.

Singing is primarily a hobby for Laura. She taught herself to sing, with the help of her SingStar karaoke set, and got some live experience performing at the occasional neighbourhood party. Nothing earth-shaking … until one day, when Laura discovered clips of people yodelling on YouTube. After two weeks of intensive practising, Laura had mastered the technique and could switch from chest to head register as quickly as the best of them.

Not long after this, Laura entered the Belgian preselections for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She sang the song Zo Verliefd (So In Love), about that wonderful feeling you get when your heart skips a beat, when the sun is suddenly shining every day and when there is a rainbow just around every corner – it’s called being in love. Laura turned out to be the discovery of the year: she took viewing Belgium’s breath away. Viewers promptly voted her into first place. A star was born. In barely two weeks Laura’s song So In Love - Yodelo was topping the charts and all of Belgium was yodelling. Who knows, before long the rest of Europe may be yodelling too...

Writers

Laura co-wrote her entry for the Belgian national selection for the 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest together with some of Belgium's finest music producers. After several co-writing sessions, they decided to write a song about Laura’s boyfriend and her feelings towards him. Laura’s exceptional talent – her ability to yodel - inspired the production team and gave her love song an extra edge.

Miguel Wiels has been a renowned artist/producer in Belgium for almost twenty years. His career took off in 1990, with the release of his own album A Dream of No Return. Since then, Miguel has written, composed and produced hit records for numerous top Belgian artists, including Yasmine, Isabelle A and Eurovision Song Contest legends Nicole & Hugo. Miguel is also one of the musical brains behind K3: by far the most successful child-oriented act in Belgium and the Netherlands for more than ten years. So far K3 have sold more than four million CD's. Their huge success has led to them being ‘cloned’ into German and South African versions. Miguel is also known for his numerous TV appearances, as the bandleader in several music-based TV formats.

Peter Gillis is also a veteran when it comes to producing and composing music. He is responsible for a long list of Belgian hits and has worked together with our nation’s biggest acts: The Dinky Toys and Pop in Wonderland, for instance. He and Miguel Wiels have coproduced all of K3’s hit singles and albums. His contribution to Laura’s So In Love (Zo Verliefd -Yodelo) is his second collaboration on a Belgian Junior Eurovision Song Contest entry: Peter also produced the 2006 Belgian entry, ‘Een tocht door het donker’, which was sung by Thor.

Alain Vande Putte co-wrote the lyrics of Laura’s song. He has an impressive list of Belgian hits to his name, including numbers by Gene Thomas, The Dinky Toys and Sha-na. He is also the third musical brain behind the mega-successful K3.
