Kazakhstan debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 and placed in the top 10 in their first two attempts at the contest. The steering group invited Kazakhstan again in 2020.

Their first participant, Daneliya Tuleshova, was chosen by Kazakh broadcaster Khabar. Daneliya sang Өзіңе сен (Òzińe Sen) and placed 6th. After the contest, she travelled to the United States to take part in America's Got Talent. She reached the final and sang with global star Ava Max.

Kazakhstan's second participant was Yerzhan Maxim. He recorded the best result so far for his country when he places second in Gliwice-Silesia in 2019. He received the most amount of points from the national juries.
