Looking back on Anahit and Mary's week in Malta

24 November 2016 at 17:00 CET
Anahit and Mary represented Armenia in the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tarber (Different). The pair finished second on the night, just seven points behind the winner, Georgia's Mariam Mamadashvili. Let's look back at Anahit and Mary's week in Valletta.

Anahit and Mary are both 13 years old and were selected by Armenian Public Television to represent their country in Malta this year. Anahit's professional career started in 2013, when she participated in the auditions of Russia’s The Voice Kids competition and Mary has participated in numerous international music competitions.

After the voting finished, Anahit and Mary attended the winners' press conference where they received a trophy alongside Italy's Fiamma Boccia and the overall winner, Georgia's Mamadashvili. The pair thanked their backing troupe and everyone in the team; "Thank you guys, it wouldn't have been possible without you".

Since Armenia first started participating in Junior Eurovision in 2007, the country has never been outside of the top ten. Armenia won Junior Eurovision in 2010 and finished second on four occasions and third twice. In ten appearances the country has only been out of the top five in two contests. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest was held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia in 2011.

When Anahit and Mary arrived home they were given a warm welcome at Zvartnots International Airport. Friends and family gathered to cheer on the two young singers who continued Armenia's strong performance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Check out the photographs of their arrival below:
