Countdown to Tbilisi: Meet Malta's Gianluca

Gianluca Cilia will represent Malta in the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Dawra Tond'. The song depicts unity and positive energy and also makes references to popular traditional Maltese rhymes.

Gianluca was born in November 2007. It became apparent from an early age that Gianluca had a passion for singing. He would sing along to any tune on the radio and would entertain anyone with his joyful singing. He showed a real interest at the age of 6, when he started singing and had music theory lessons. 

Gianluca started participating in various local festivals where he has always been praised and encouraged to keep on nourishing his talent. In 2006 he won the overall Grand Prix of the First International Arpeggio Festival.

This year Gianluca has won the Maltese national selection and will be representing Malta at the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi in November – a dream come true! Gianluca looks forward to making new friends and performing in front of such a big audience for the very first time. His message to all his fans is to follow your dreams and to work hard at what you enjoy doing.

Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Malta first participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and is one of the most successful countries in Junior Eurovision in recent years, winning two out of the last four editions of the competition. Last year the contest was held in the Maltese capital, Valletta.
