Let's meet Azerbaijan and Bulgaria 🇦🇿🇧🇬

15 December 2021 at 15:00 CET
After their first rounds of rehearsals here at La Seine Musicale in Paris, the JuniorEurovision.tv team took a moment to chat with Sona Azizova from Azerbaijan and Denislava & Martin from Bulgaria.

🇦🇿 Azerbaijan

Sona Azizova is a globe-trotting artist and experienced singer! Even though she’s gained a lot of experience performing in festivals at home and abroad, and has appeared on The Voice Kids Azerbaijan, the first steps onto a new stage always bring excitement and a bit of nerves.

'I was very excited, and happy, but I feel a big responsibility! I don’t want to disappoint my fans and supporters, so I’ll try my best. The stage was perfect, cool, amazing!

She loves her home city of Baku, but she’s also spent a lot of time traveling, including a few years living in Serbia. She loved the weather and the green spaces, and has already become friends with Jovana and Dunja!

Sona isn’t just a talented singer, but she’s an artist, as well. She learned the art of copper embossing from her grandfather, and has even created a special piece of artwork inspired by Junior Eurovision. She’s keeping it under wraps for the moment, but it will be a surprise for one of her fellow competitors. 🎁

🇧🇬 Bulgaria

Denislava and Martin have been working together for a few years, and you can tell that they’re comfortable singing as a duo. They were first introduced by their music teacher, Elena Karabelova, who thought that their voices would click. Four years later, they’re here at Junior Eurovision, singing Voice of Love.

Marti says that he appreciates that Deni never gives up, and that she’s always fun to be around. Deni returns the favour, saying that they support each other well musically, and that he can often reach notes that she can’t!

Eagle-eyed fans of the Eurovision Song Contest might have caught that Voice of Love was co-written by Vasil Garvanliev, who performed at Eurovision in 2021.

Deni says:

'He told us the story of how he created the song, which was very moving to us, and it helped us understand the song better. He’s such a positive and funny person, and I love that about him!'

Marti noted that Vasil helped him visualise the structure of the song and how it evolves over three minutes, swelling and growing like a balloon. That practical image really helped him understand Voice of Love's composition.

Deni and Marti are from Dobrich and Varna, respectively, and would invite visitors to check out some of their favorite sites from their hometowns. Marti is especially proud of Varna’s Dolphinarium and Sea Garden, and Deni loves Dobrich’s Art Gallery and City Park!
