The week of... Helena Meraai from Belarus

Helena Meraai represented Belarus in the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'I Am The One'. Today we look back at her week in Tbilisi.

Helena is 14 years old and she was born in Minsk in May 2003. Helena's mother is Belarusian and her father is from Syria. When he finished Belarusian State University he met his love and decided to stay in Belarus. At the age of three Helena appeared on stage for the first time. 

In Tbilisi Helena performed I Am The One and she was really proud of the team she was working with on her act. The song was written by famous Russian composer Rita Dakota, who has Belarusian roots, and her husband sound producer Vlad Sokolovsky. The idea of her song is simple; each of us is a small universe and if we believe in ourselves - all our bravest dreams will come true. invited all the participants to our Junior Eurovision studio and treated them to several challenges with questions like: Which country won Junior Eurovision the most times? Rita Dakota is a famous singer and composer. She is one of the most popular and modern singers and songwriters working and living in Russia and is also very popular in Belarus. Rita was born in Minsk and lived in Belarus for several years before moving to Moscow recently. She is no stranger to Junior Eurovision as she wrote the song Water Of Life for Russia last year which came fourth in the final.   

Belarus will host the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Minsk!
