Russia's entry for Junior Eurovision 2016, Water of Life, describes what is happening in teenagers' souls as they get older. The song was written by the project soloist Sofia Fisenko in collaboration with Rita Dakota. Sofia won the Russian national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest earlier this summer. A total of 16 performers from 12 different cities took part. 14 year old Sofia Fisenko, from the city of Novomoskovsk, emerged victorious and will represent her country in Malta.

Russia has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2005 and won the competition in 2006 with the song Vesenniy jazzperformed by the Tolmachevy Sisters, who went on to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 placing seventh with the song Shine.
