Remember the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest?

The event

The fourth Junior Eurovision Song Contest was held on the 2nd of December 2006. It took place in the Sala Polivalentă in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The theme of the show was Let The Music Play. We had two hosts, the adult host Andreea Marin Bănică and the kid host, Ioana Ivan who did a wonderful job.

The show was organised by the Romanian national broadcaster, TVR which won the rights of hosting the contest over AVRO of the Netherlands. Croatia also expressed an interest in hosting this contest.
The show was broadcast live in the fifteen competing countries, as well as Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Australian television channel SBS.

The participants

Portugal appeared in the contest for the first time with Pedro Madeira and his song Deixa-Me Sentir (Let Me Feel). Two was the number for  Cyprus this year and two were its singers Luis Panagiotou and Christina Christofi a duet for Agoria Koritsia (Boys And Girls). The Netherlands came to Bucharest with Kimberly singing very good (Goed).

Romania's entry on home ground, was a story (Povestea Mea) told by the New Star Music characters: Harry Potter, Spiderman, Peter Pan and Prince Charming. Ukraine debuted in Junior with Nazar Slyusarchuk as a Rock'n'Roll Boy, After two second places and one victory Spain looked for the top again with Dani's Te Doy Mi Voz (I Give You My Voice). Neustrašivi Učitelji Stranih Jezika was the long name of the band that first represented Serbia as an independent country with the foreign language class (Učimo Strane Jezike).

Malta's Sophie Debattista entered the stage on a small bike claiming that one day she was going to be Extra Cute. FYR Macedonia followed with Zana Aliu who confessed she was in love (Vljubena). Next was Sweden's ballad belter Molly Sandén: the best someone could get (Det Finaste Någon Kan Få) that came third. Greece joined the party for the fourth time, in this occasion with Chloe Sofia Boleti's Den Peirazei (It Doesn't Matter).

After winning in Hasselt, Belarus was ready to do it again with Andrey Kunets, but Noviy Den (New Day) finished second. Belgium had high hopes in Thor! who brought a lantern for his journey through the dark (Een Tocht Door Het Donker), Croatia competed with Mateo Đido who sang a song for Lea, Russia was the last country performing, a place which proved very succesful again with the Spring Jazz by The Tolmachevy Twins and their great performance.

The winner

After the participating entries, the interval act included the previous year's winner, Ksenia Sitnik, and a remix of the first three Romanian participants at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Then the points started coming from all over Europe and it was clear that the winners would be The Tolmachevy Twins from Russia and very happy they took to the stage again to perform the song Vesenniy Jazz!
