Maria Iside Fiore will represent Italy in the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi! Maria Iside's Junior Eurovision entry is called Scelgo (My Choice) which describes a young girl's dilemmas about her future. The song was written by Maria Iside alongside Stefano Rigamonti and Fabrizio Palaferri.

Maria Iside Fiore was born in Carrara in 2004 and lives in Sarzana, Liguria, where she attends the musical section of the local junior high school. She plays clarinet and sings in the school choir. When she was four, Maria Iside started dancing in the Danzabilmente group, which promotes the integration of disabilities through the dance. She is still an active member of the ensemble.

In 2015 she started singing solo and the following year she took part in several talent shows and contests at both a local and national level. Last year she was a finalist in the national contest Cantagiro in the junior section and she sang a cover of Anna Tatangelo’s Libera as part of the Red Shoes Compilation which was a CD project highlighting violence against women.

Earlier this year Maria Iside qualified for the Semi-Final of Cantagiro and made her debut as an actress in a theatre production. She was selected by Italian broadcaster RAI to represent the country in Junior Eurovision 2017.

Italy's choice

Italy's Junior Eurovision entry this year, Scelgo (My Choice) describes a young girl's dilemma about her future. The empowering song tells the story of a girl who does not give in to fear of the unknown. She overcomes her fears, and with an open heart she is free to fly over walls and express herself.

You can read the English translation of the lyrics below:

I choose not to be afraid

to go beyond, beyond these walls

I choose to give wings and wind

To every breath, to every moment of mine

I choose not to be afraid

Not to fear borders and colours

I choose to throw my own smile

Beyond the fence between Heaven and Earth

Italy at Junior Eurovision
