Over 200 volunteer applications received!

09 September 2014 at 18:34 CEST

In total, over 200 people applied to be a volunteer at this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, after PBS made a call through their website. Of these, over half were invited to PBS for a lengthy selection process, which finished last week.

During the selection phase, applicants were interviewed and had their language skills and abilities tested. Applications were received from people aged 18 up to 60 years old! However age is not the only difference between these volunteers - they also came from many different work sectors, such as finance, tourism, engineering, media, and also students at University and MCAST. This is a very positive quality for the volunteers team, as this makes the team dynamic and versatile - excellent qualities for the unique show that will be put on this November!

Nicole Tabone, Junior Eurovision 2014 Production Secretary responsible for the volunteers, is very happy with the volunteers selected, saying:  “Overall, the lengthy selection process has proven to be very rewarding as we now have the best people who will make sure that the Junior Eurovision in Malta is a success”.

The roles of volunteers will include:

  • hosting delegations
  • helping the Production team
  • helping the technical crew backstage
  • helping the delegations and the general public through information desks
  • keeping the public updated through the dynamic press team which is also partly made up of volunteers

Workshops will now be held to prepare volunteers for the Junior Eurovision week and equip them with knowledge about the history of Malta, as well as ethics and hospitality. Other workshops will covering roles and duties will be held closer to the event.
