Introducing 2015: Malta's Destiny

05 November 2015 at 15:24 CET

Chosen over the summer in as the winner of the 'Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest', Destiny Chukunyere will go to Sofia with the whole island behind her!

About the artist

Malta’s Destiny Chukunyere is only thirteen years old, but she’s already got a wealth of experience behind her, and certainly many wonderful adventures to come! She’s participated in a number musical festivals and competitions, taking home awards from prestigious contests in Italy, FYR Macedonia, and Malta. This past July, she came out on top at the Maltese Junior Eurovision preselection event (the nation’s first Junior national final since 2010), and won the right to represent her homeland in Sofia.

Destiny is a student at  ‘Our Lady Immaculate School’ in Ħamrun, not far from the Maltese capital, Valletta. She draws musical inspiration from many artists, but really gravitates towards her idols, Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé. She sees her participation at Junior Eurovision 2015 as a stepping stone, not only in her budding musical career, but also helping her grow as a person.

About the song

Destiny’s song, “Not My Soul”, was written with the help of Elton Zarb and Matt “Muxu” Merecia (who have also worked on the Junior Eurovision songs for Gaia Cauchi and Federica Falzon, as well as “Warrior”, the 2015 Eurovision entry for Amber). It is a fun, funky, and fabulous song about self-reliance and loving the person you are. Whatever life throws at you, as long as you follow your heart and trust in yourself, dreams can come true! As Destiny says,

Now take a minute, can you hear it? It’s the sound of your dreams.
You know glitter and bling, it don’t mean a thing...I’m the queen of my soul!

We are expecting there to be a retro-party type of atmosphere on stage!

On stage at the Arena Armeec, you can expect a retro-inspired, energetic performance, full of color, light, and personality. Of course, some surprises are still forthcoming, but in the meantime, you can watch Destiny’s preview video, check out her participant profile, and follow her Facebook page!
