Highlights from the Opening Ceremony of Junior Eurovision 2016

The opening ceremony of the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place tonight in Valletta's Manoel Theatre. Delegations from the 17 participating countries walked the red carpet ahead of the occasion which signals the official start of Junior Eurovision 2016.

The opening ceremony was broadcast live on TV by Host Broadcaster PBS Malta and also streamed live on the official Junior Eurovision channel on YouTube. During the show Destiny, who won Junior Eurovision for Malta last year, performed her winning song Not My Soul as well as the official theme song for 2016, Embrace. Gaia Cauchi, Malta's very first Junior Eurovision winner from 2013, also performed during the show. 

Manoel Theatre

The Manoel Theatre is one of the oldest in Malta and opened in 1732. The venue can accommodate up to 623 people (seated) and is a grade one listed building. The three tiers of boxes inside are constructed of wood and the theatre is also famous for its intricate ceiling design. The venue provided the perfect setting to welcome the participating delegations to Malta.
