Meet Germany’s best: Bjarne is on top of the world
24 October 2024 at 12:10 CESTComing from a small town called Rehden, Bjarne is just as comfortable doing karaoke at home as he is competing in televised music contests.
As well as performing in local festivals and family events in his Lower Saxony town, he made it to the semi-finals of The Voice Kids Germany, where he stunned the judges at the audition with a performance of Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved.
Now he’s hoping to take Germany’s first Junior Eurovision Song Contest trophy back to what he describes as his “nice wooden house.”
Save The Best For Us is all about our responsibility to Bjarne’s generation, who want to grow up in a beautiful world. He starts by singing about all the wonders of the world that are in his mind, and whether they’ll still be there tomorrow.
As a talented musician, Bjarne put forward some of his own ideas for lyrics and music, then the songwriting team got to work. The idea was safe in the hands of Ignacio Uriarte, Kai Oliver Krug, and Thomas Meilstrup.
Kai is a producer and songwriter who’s not only written for a range of artists, but also for films including Disney’s Dinosaur. Ignacio is a New York-born singer-songwriter who has performed under the names Lions Head and Iggy. And Thomas is a Danish artist who has been performing since he was a child, and has recently signed a record deal.
Just to add to his credentials as a nature enthusiast, Bjarne’s name means 'little bear' in Norwegian, and polar bears even get a mention in his song. Polar bears are “Eisbären” in German, if you wanted to know.
Bjarne finds it almost impossible to choose his favourite song, as there’s so much brilliant music to choose from. He goes with Adele’s Someone Like You, but does add that on another day, he might pick something different.
He does, however, know who his favourite pop star is. And it’s Adele. He thinks she’s amazing, funny and has an incredible voice. Bjarne, you’re not wrong there.
From everything we’ve seen of Bjarne, he certainly loves blasting out power ballads, and it’s clear how he’s been inspired by powerhouse artists like Adele.
He often records covers of some of his favourite songs and posts them on social media, including Emeli Sandé’s Read All About It, Olivia Rodrigo’s Traitor, and John Legend’s All Of Me.
When he isn’t performing on a big stage, Bjarne loves to sing along to karaoke tracks on YouTube, especially piano versions. We feel a backstage karaoke party coming on…
Bjarne has never been to mainland Spain before, but he has been to two Spanish islands, Mallorca and Lanzarote. He even spent one Christmas in Lanzarote, where they had a foam party in the sun on Christmas Eve.
In the run up to Junior Eurovision 2024, Bjarne said: “The theme of the song is that I want to protect the world. And everybody who sees that, please, please, please protect the world. I can’t wait to perform my song ‘Save The Best For Us’ in Madrid!”
