Kazakhstan’s David Charlin’s interests lie in all sorts of activities, from traditional dancing to taekwondo to skiing to chess to drone flying and video editing, but music is his biggest love.

The twelve-year-old from Almaty has been studying vocal technique for the past three years, and after participating in a number of national music contests and television shows, it was his star performance in this year’s Baqytty Bala (‘Happy Child’) festival that gave him the opportunity to represent Kazakhstan this year with his song Jer-Ana (Mother Earth).

When I was in Baqytty Bala, I was really shocked that I was the one who got to go to Junior Eurovision, but now I’m just happy!’

When David’s not singing, he has a love of travel, and hopes to one day see the world via motorhome, taking videos and sharing his experiences with others. Jer-Ana (Mother Earth) is all about protecting the beauty of nature, loving the planet that we all live on, and being proud of where you come from. He’s excited to represent Kazakhstan, and hopes that people will be inspired to visit some of his favourite sites in his country, like the Shymbulak ski resort in the Medeu Valley, Charyn Canyon, or the shores of the Caspian Sea.

For David, it’s not just an honor to sing on behalf of his home country at Junior Eurovision, but it’s especially meaningful for him to do so here in Yerevan, as his mother was born in Armenia. He's been studying the language and is excited to practice in person.

I’m really happy to perform here because it’s Armenia! I was here as a child, and I’m so happy to be here again and make new memories.’
