Italy debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 in Malta. A successful debut, since the country won the contest that year. Vincenzo Cantiello received 159 points with his song 'Tu Primo Grande Amore'.

Since then, Italy has taken part every year. Fiamma Boccia represented the country in 2016 and finished in third place with the song Cara Mamma.
